    Last week was rough.

We lost Susan Niebur on Monday, then on Tuesday Rachel Moro left us. It was a weepy week.

    And…..

People who don’t like my writing on Yahoo occasionally can’t restrain themselves, and find me here to write their comments. I don’t think they even read my blog, so announcing that I spam these people doesn’t even help! Aaaaargh…

I had a few things to say on Yahoo News about the Komen/Planned Parenthood mess. It was particularly irritating in the face of what’s really going on in the world of breast cancer. We haven’t won. Two of my friends died last week, and two others have lost their hard-won remissions. AND crazy right-wing nuts write to me on my website to tell me to shut up.

NOT! I will not shut up. I will not desist, I will not be polite. I will not give up until I stop losing my friends to breast cancer.

I like the suggestion made , that weevenhr you remind someone to get a mammogram, you add, and a lipid profile, since heart disease is the #1 killer of women. Note that she also has the 2002 stats displayed, and the mortality figures are:Heart Disease: 356,000Stroke: 100,000Lung Cancer: 68,000COPD: 64,000Breast Cancer: 42,000Now, add up the totals on the three heart-related things listed, and you get 520,000. I mean, that’s more than ELEVEN TIMES the deaths from breast cancer. Obviously, we need to get way more concerned about the health of our hearts and circulatory systems. Not at the EXPENSE of breast cancer awareness or anything else, but in ADDITION. So, yeah, get that mammogram and a lipids profile, blood-pressure check, heck, maybe even a full cardiac workup every so often. I’ve had one in the last year.

You should check with her oolicngost to make sure that any alternative treatments are compatible with her current treatment. Some herbs interfere with chemotherapy and make it less effective. You should also make sure you read information about Essiac Tea from the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute studies:National Cancer Institute:American Cancer SocietyKeep in mind that The US Food and Drug Administration has not approved Essiac or Flor•Essence as a cancer treatment. Companies sell Essiac and Flor•Essence as health tonics or herbal dietary supplements, which the FDA regulates as foods, not drugs. Essiac or Flor•Essence would have to be approved by the FDA as a drug for companies to claim that the products treat or prevent a disease.
